Generally speaking, there are four types of accidents that can be claimed for depending on the situation you were in when the injury was sustained. It is important to establish the type of accident in order to help us identify the likely responsible party and the level of claim we are likely to apply for. It is therefore important for us to identify the type of accident from the outset.

1) Road Traffic

This covers all accidents you may have been involved in as a driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian where someone else’s actions caused you a personal injury. The responsible party may have been a driver of any type of vehicle, motorcycle or a simple bicycle. In all of these situations we will endeavour to establish the facts including the severity of your injuries and place a claim against the responsible person(s) or their insurance company.

2) Workplace

Any type of injury that you may have sustained while at work is worth an assessment. This covers accidents involving machinery / equipment, repetitive strain, hazardous environment, negligence, etc. Your employers have a duty of care towards you and any failure on their part constitute a liability and they must pay you compensation. This is why all employers are required by law to be insured for such an eventuality.

3) Public Places

Wherever you are in a public place such as cinemas, shopping malls, libraries, restaurants or walking down the high street, the owners are also duty bound to provide safe environments in which we can go about our daily lives. So, if you slip, trip or have something fall on you causing you an injury of some kind, the highway agency, the council or the shop owner, etc., are liable to pay you compensation.

4) Other Circumstances

In all other situations that are not covered above, if you sustain a personal injury through lack of care and attention by other people and through no fault of your own, then you have a strong case to claim compensation. This can cover being in a private club, in other people’s homes, or even in your own home.
